AKTU B.Tech. Applied Chemistry for Fibres, Polymers and Sustainable Textiles Solved Question Bank

This EduQuest solved question bank supports exam preparation for Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU) B.Tech. First Year, TX Stream (Textile Technology). It follows the official syllabus of Applied Chemistry for Fibres, Polymers and Sustainable Textiles (course code AAS102E / AAS202E) unit by unit.

What is included

  • Quick revision sheet of key formulae at the start of every unit.
  • 12 short answer questions (2 marks) per unit with exam-ready answers.
  • 12 long answer questions (7 marks) per unit with complete step-by-step solutions, diagrams and numericals.
  • MOST IMPORTANT and IMPORTANT tags with a summary list for each unit.
  • AKTU-format model question papers with complete solutions.

Unit-wise syllabus coverage

  1. Unit 1 – Chemistry of Textile Fibres: Classification of textile fibres; natural fibres (cotton, wool, silk, jute) and their chemical composition; synthetic fibres (nylon, polyester, acrylic); physical and chemical properties of fibres; moisture absorption and swelling; fibre morphology and structure-property relationship.
  2. Unit 2 – Polymer Chemistry and Fibre Formation: Introduction to polymers; monomers and polymerization; addition and condensation polymerization, copolymerization, step-growth and chain-growth mechanisms, melt, dry, and wet spinning processes, drawing and orientation, fiber crystallinity and amorphous regions, chemical modification of fibers (graft copolymerization, cross-linking), recycled and bio-based synthetic fibers (PLA, PHA).
  3. Unit 3 – Textile Wet Processing Chemistry: Preparation processes (desizing, scouring, bleaching – chemistry and agents), chemistry of direct, reactive, acid, basic, vat, and disperse dyes, dye-fiber interactions and bonding mechanisms, printing pastes and thickeners, fixation chemistry, after-treatments, water and effluent chemistry in wet processing.
  4. Unit 4 – Textile Finishing Chemistry: Mechanical and chemical finishing principles, softeners (anionic, cationic, silicone-based), anti-wrinkle and easy-care finishes (DMDHEU chemistry), water-repellent finishes (fluorocarbon, C6 vs C8), flame-retardant finishes (halogenated and phosphorus-based), UV protection finishes, nanotechnology in textile finishing.
  5. Unit 5 – Sustainable and Functional Textile Chemistry: Environmental issues in textile industry, Green chemistry in textile processing, biodegradable dyes and natural dyes, enzyme-based processes (amylases, cellulases, proteases), antimicrobial textiles (silver nanoparticles, chitosan, zinc oxide), phase-change materials in textiles, e-textiles chemistry, recycling of textile waste, circular economy in textile industry.
