Course Objectives
- The syllabus for petroleum exploration should be aimed at the students to have a broad knowledge of exploration history in India and Gain an understanding of the fundamental principles and processes involved in petroleum exploration, including the nature and physical properties of petroleum, through theoretical study and case analysis.
- Explore the origins and formation of petroleum, unconventional sources such as gas hydrates, and their significance in modern exploration practices, supplemented by insightful case studies.
- Delve into the mechanisms of migration and accumulation of hydrocarbons, reservoir formation, and geological structures crucial for petroleum entrapment, supported by real-world case studies.
- Acquire knowledge of gravity and magnetic methods in petroleum exploration, including Newton's gravitational law, measurement techniques, and their practical applications through hands-on exercises and analysis.
- Develop proficiency in various exploration methodologies such as geological, geochemical, remote sensing, and seismic surveys, coupled with case studies to illustrate their real-world applications and effectiveness.
Course Outcomes
On successful completion of the course, the student will be able to:
- have a broad-based understanding of seismic exploration, viz its acquisition methods, processing and interpretation.
- know these methods with the other subjects so that they can opt for upstream industry jobs.
