Course Objectives
- Understand the operations and products of refineries, distinguishing between downstream and upstream processes and recognizing the role of downstream engineers in fractionation and product manufacturing.
- Explore finishing processes such as sweetening, sulfur conversion, solvent extraction, and hydrotreating, crucial for refining high-quality petroleum products through solvent deasphalting and dewaxing.
- Master techniques for enhancing octane and cetane ratings, including isomerization and reforming, while also learning about aromatics production and corrosion control in processes like bitumen blowing.
- Gain proficiency in product blending and quality control, covering gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, lubricants, and specialty products, ensuring optimal performance and compliance with industry standards.
- Analyze environmental considerations in downstream treatment, including waste management, recycling, and regulatory compliance, while also exploring future trends in downstream engineering to address evolving challenges sustainably. COURSEOUTCOME: On successful completion of the course, the student will be able to:
- Understand the Downstream Petroleum Industry.
- Understand the Fundamentals of Refinery Operations.
- Explore Advanced Processes and Energy Management.
- Develop Skills in Product Blending and Quality Control.
- Gain Knowledge about Emerging Technologies and Sustainability. REFERENCEBOOKS:
